{"id":1806,"date":"2026-06-12T16:00:57","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T16:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saveuighur.org\/?p=1806"},"modified":"2026-06-15T13:01:35","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T13:01:35","slug":"justice-for-alls-save-uyghur-campaign-condemns-death-sentences-against-uyghur-men-in-thailand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saveuighur.org\/ug\/justice-for-alls-save-uyghur-campaign-condemns-death-sentences-against-uyghur-men-in-thailand\/","title":{"rendered":"Justice For All\u2019s Save Uyghur Campaign Condemns Death Sentences Against Uyghur Men in Thailand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington, D.C &#8211; June 12, 2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justiceforall.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justice For All<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saveuighur.org\/ug\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Save Uyghur<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Campaign strongly condemns the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/11\/world\/asia\/2015-bangkok-bombing-death-sentence.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">death sentences<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> handed down on June 11, 2026, by a Thai court against Uyghur men Bilal Mohammad and Yusuf Mieraili in connection with the 2015 Erawan Shrine <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/08\/18\/world\/asia\/bangkok-explosion.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bombing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Bangkok. While we express our deepest sympathy for the victims and families affected by this horrific attack, we are extremely concerned by the serious due process concerns that have surrounded this case for more than a decade. Both men maintain their innocence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those responsible for the bombing must be held accountable through a fair, transparent and credible judicial process. However, the integrity of these proceedings are questionable. Not only has it taken a long time to reach this verdict and there are procedural irregularities, the defendants have alleged mistreatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bilal Mohammad repeatedly told the court that he was subjected to ill-treatment by Thai authorities in order to extract a confession. He stated that he was denied access to a Uyghur interpreter throughout the investigation and was forced to sign documents written in Thai, a language he does not understand. In October 2025, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digitallibrary.un.org\/record\/4093961?v=pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> concluded that the defendants\u2019 decade-long detention was \u201cfundamentally arbitrary, discriminatory, and breached international covenants.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thailand has experienced increasing political pressure and growing economic and strategic dependence on China, where there is a genocide against Uyghurs. Allegations of coerced confessions and denial of adequate linguistic assistance strike at the very foundation of a fair trial and must be independently investigated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arslan Hidayat, Justice For All\u2019s Save Uyghur Campaign team lead, said \u201cThe victims of the Erawan Shrine bombing deserve truth and justice, but justice cannot be achieved through a process clouded by allegations of coercion, discrimination and political influence.
