Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign Commemorates the 16th Anniversary of the Shaoguan Toy Factory Massacre

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C  – June 25, 2025

On the 16th anniversary of the massacre at the Shaoguan Toy Factory, Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign remembers the Uyghur workers who were killed and injured in attacks by Han-Chinese workers that began on June 26, 2009. Chinese state-run media says at least two Uyghurs were killed and over 100 injured. Many suspect the true toll was higher, as the Chinese government has never fully disclosed the facts.

The Uyghurs were in Shaoguan in southeast China as part of a wider pattern of forced labor. Although Uyghurs do not want to leave their homes, with few economic opportunities, they are left with no choice. Chinese settlers are also moving into East Turkistan, taking over Uyghur land and resources. Many are pressured or coerced to work in factories across China.

Justice For All calls on the Chinese government to release all details about what happened at the Shaoguan Toy Factory, including the real number of Uyghurs who died or were injured. We urge the international community to pressure the Chinese authorities, who have a long history of ignoring such requests and suppressing information about human rights abuses and demand accountability. We ask governments, human rights organizations and concerned citizens worldwide to stand in solidarity with the Uyghur people to demand justice, accountability and an end to the Chinese regime’s relentless campaign of genocide.

Quotes.

“The Shaoguan tragedy is a reminder of the ongoing suffering of the Uyghur people. Uyghurs are forced to leave their homes and face violence and injustice wherever they go. The world must pay attention and demand that China stop its policies of forced labor and ethnic repression.”

  • Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, President, Justice For All.

“The Shaoguan Massacre is not an isolated tragedy. It is part of a pattern of state-sponsored violence and censorship that continues to this day. The world must not look away from the ongoing persecution of the Uyghur people.”

  • Arslan Hidayat, Team Lead, Justice For All’s Save Uyghur campaign.
