Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign Condemns Germany’s Deportation of Uyghur Woman to China, Calls for Accountability

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 10, 2025
Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign condemns the recent deportation of 56-year-old Uyghur woman Reziwanguli Baikeli (Uyghur: Rizwangul Bekri) from Germany to China on November 3, 2025, and calls for an immediate investigation into how this grave violation of international human rights protections was allowed to occur.
While her daughter, Muyesser Obul, has since confirmed that Rizwangul miraculously escaped from Beijing and arrived safely in Türkiye, this case underscores a critical failure of Germany’s asylum system and its moral obligation to protect Uyghur refugees from being returned to persecution.
Germany had previously pledged not to deport Uyghurs to China following the 2018 case of a 22-year-old Uyghur man who was forcibly sent to Beijing and never heard from again. Rizwangul’s deportation represents a clear violation of that commitment and of international refugee law, which prohibits sending individuals back to a country where they face the threat of persecution or torture.
Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All, stated: “It is unconscionable that Germany would forcibly return a Uyghur asylum seeker to the very regime committing genocide against her people. This action violates the spirit and letter of international law. We call on German authorities to publicly explain how this deportation occurred and to take immediate steps to ensure it never happens again.”
According to reports, Rizwangul was deported from Germany under escort by multiple police officers and sent to Beijing. Through extraordinary circumstances, she managed to transit through the Chinese capital and flee to Türkiye.
Arslan Hidayat, Team Lead of the Save Uyghur Campaign, emphasized the urgent need for government accountability: “This case should alarm every democratic nation. It shows how easily Uyghur refugees can fall through the cracks of bureaucracy and end up back in the hands of their oppressors. Germany must investigate this failure and reaffirm its commitment to protecting Uyghur asylum seekers.”
Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign urges:
- The German Federal Government to immediately disclose how this deportation was approved and identify those responsible.
- The European Union to review its member states’ compliance with non-refoulement obligations under international law.
- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to intervene and strengthen protections for Uyghur asylum seekers worldwide.
The Save Uyghur Campaign stands in full solidarity with Muyesser Obul and her mother, Rizwangul Bekri, and will continue to work with international partners to ensure justice, transparency, and safety for Uyghur refugees everywhere.
